Rumination is the action of chewing over and over… to meditate on.
This piano solo began as a little experiment. It was created from a single repetitive note. As I played the note over and over again I started to add some changes of chords. The music began to take on emotion and it felt like the single note was chanting to me.
First I heard the words… “You are love-ly” (from ‘Song of Songs’) over and over again. And then the words “how I love you”. It was if the music was helping me to focus upon the simple truths of God and it was ruminating in my whole being.
I have always found repetition very difficult. I get bored very easily and my mind wanders every which way. As I come back to this piece time and time again, it seems that Holy Spirit speaks a new “4 syllable truth” into my being and the music gives me time to focus upon it before it gets quickly swept away in the busyness of life.
As you listen to the music, ask God for a truth to ruminate so that it can go deep into your spirit and you can live that truth as a first response in life. I hope you find this music helpful.
About the score… find a sample of the score below. If you are a pianist who is about Grade 4-5 then I think you would be able to play this. It is not technically difficult but requires mature musicianship to play expressively with a depth of emotion. If you wish to obtain a full copy of the piano score then please contact Carolyn.
