Lyrics…
The one who calls life to be is living here in me.... let Him live His spirit nourishes, new life flourishes.... let Him live One life, one faith, one love, one hope, one way One constant I can see is Christ alive in me Let Him live in my soul Jesus take control My heart is listening, I've heard the voice within... I need to let You live I've been losing touch with your majesty Who you are and what you've done for me.... I need to let You live Yes and come and full on set a fire keep it burning higher and brighter I don't ever want to put it out
Song story…
There is a long story associated with this song but I will keep it brief here. It was conceived in a very short space of time… a matter of minutes really, but the song spoke volumes to me and I journeyed with it over several years as it impacted my life with revelation after revelation.
This song was a timely reminder that I needed to consistently take time to reflect and come back to God’s agenda rather than mine. I am good at finding things to occupy my time and to dream of possibilities… and God’s ways are not forgotten but they are also often not at the centre of my thoughts or devotion.
“There are many things in life we pursue but if I keep my eyes on the one thing that is important, that is eternal life, that is God Himself who gave me life. He is my constant when everything else fails or falls away or lets me down” (2 Cor 4:18)
…and people and circumstances have and will continue to let me down. I suffered disillusionment and during that time God gave this song as a cry for me to come back to Him wholeheartedly rather than nominally. It is a song of surrender. It is a song of encouragement to continue to seek Father God and He will empower me to continue the journey with passion.
The lyrics to this song just came into my head and I wrote them down. Later I went seeking out bible verses to find out their context. Here are some of them…
John 1:4 – His life is light for all humanity (TPT)
Hebrews 11:3 – Faith empowers us (TPT)
2 Corinthians 5:14 – For it is Christ’s love that fuels our passion and motivates us (TPT)
Ephesians 4:4 – you were called to one hope when you were called
John 14:6 – I am the way… to know me is to know my father (TPT)
Ephesians 3:17, Galatians 2:20 – Christ alive in me
2 Corinthians 5:14 – Christ’s love controls us (NLT)
The repeated word, “ONE”, turned out to be a bit of a contranym. For a while there when I sang it I interpreted it as Jesus, as the only one way, and that Jesus lives in me and we are one. But one day I had a revelation that the word “One” is actually meant to be plural!!
So I went searching again and these bible verses opened my eyes to this new truth…
John 1:4 – … for his life is light for all humanity (TPT)
Ephesians 4:5 – For the Lord God is one, and so are we, for we share in one faith… (TPT).
1 john 4:12 – but if we love one another, God makes His permanent home in us, and we make our permanent home in Him, and His love is brought to its full expression in us” (TPT)
Ephesians 4:4 – being one body and one spirit as you were all called into the same glorious hope (TPT)
I finally came to the realisation that my devotion to Jesus is not the complete picture… the complete picture is Christ and we. While I continue to isolate myself from other Christians I will always feel there is something missing… something more I am searching for but not finding and wondering why ‘me and God’ is not enough! It is life in community with other Christians that completes the picture. To fully allow Christ to live in me is to allow others into my life who also have Christ living in them. That is the final piece to the conundrum of seeking fullness of life.
