Looking to Mount Haven

Looking to Mount Haven

Mount Haven sits above the landscape, visible from our sunroom window. It is mostly covered in trees but sometimes when the sun is setting you can see a few spots of cliff face. At times it is covered in cloud or fog. At other times it is shining in the brilliant sunshine. It can look brown or green depending upon the season.

One day I was thinking about its name. It occurred to me, that to be called Mount Haven it is indicating there must be something that one is seeking ‘haven’ from!

This piano solo depicts the mystery of Mount Haven… where the peace and serenity is only achieved by seeking a place to be a haven. This place doesn’t dispel the fear or pain or whatever it is that we seek haven from, it only provides a place for one to hide away from it for a season. Eventually we will have to face up to that which we want to hide from.

I was reminded of the imagery of finding shelter under Gods wings, where the struggles in life are still swirling around, it’s just that I am safe in His presence.

I am under God’s protection.

I am righteous because of his grace.

I am at peace because of his righteousness.

I am valued because of his unconditional love.

Being under God’s wings doesn’t stop the difficult circumstances in my life, it simply gives me perspective.

It helps me keep my eyes on Father God who has His arms wrapped around me, the Father who is cheering me on,  the Father who is there with me in my struggles.

My Father God is my Mount Haven.

Where do you go to seek haven?

About the score… find a sample of the score below. If you are a pianist who is about Grade 5 then I think you would be able to play this. It is not technically difficult but requires mature musicianship to play expressively with a depth of emotion. If you wish to obtain a full copy of the piano score then please contact me and I can send you a PDF. There is no cost involved… I just like to know where the scores are going. Thanks
