IN PEACE AND WONDER

(c)2014 Carolyn Miller

Lyrics

In peace and wonder
In joy and in the laughter
he can be found

In the kindness,
In smiling and compassion
He can be found

In the silence simply hold her hand
In the struggles you can walk beside her
and be there too
He works through you
He's found in you

In the small things he leads us on (x 3)
towards the goal,
where He is found
Yes He is found

He is found in conversation
He is found in an encouraging word
and in grief and sorrow He can be found
yes He is found

In peace and wonder
In joy and in the laughter
He can be found

Song story

This song is a tribute to pastoral carers, chaplains and counsellors… and to all who have realised the value of the small things in life (which are really the big things in life).

I wrote this song when I first began to realise that the small things we do in life are actually more effective than the grand plans or schemes we come up with. I have always found satisfaction in completing a project. It starts with a plan, then comes the hard work and eventually the event or project is over and there is a sense of relief as I begin to dream about another project that is bigger and better. But I began to see that the little things we do for people were so much more effective… like how we treat people, or sit with them when they hurt or how one can bring joy or peace into a situation with a kind gesture or how simply marveling at God’s wondrous ways are so powerful in people’s lives and can touch them deeper than any event would.

God can be found in all things not just in the big projects or the church programs or the sermon or the mission trip… but in all things. Not just in the lovely things that make us feel good such as peace and wonder and joy and laughter and fun, but also in the sadness and in the struggles.

To all those who have compassion for people in the quietness and out of the limelight… God is visible through you. This song is a tribute to you and the love of God that you share with others.
